Excuse me, for I do not speak German... Are there any homebrew shops in and
around the Munich area where I can purchase and pick up equipment? I know
that I can order online, but for large equipment it is preferable if I can
pick it up.
thank you for your help...
cheers!

I take it from the lack of responses, that there are no
brewing shops in Munich?? Ok, I guess I will have to mail order
everything.
Danke!

Yes, that's right, Munich seems to be an area without any shops for brewing
equipment. I've ordered everything by mail at some onlineshops.
Where are you from? Are you living (and brewing) in Munich?

Hey Jakobus,
Yes, I am temporarily residing in Munich... I am originally from
California. Although I love the Bavarian beers, I do wish for a good West
Coast IPA or APA. So, I wish to brew while I am here... plus I miss
brewing. Thanks for the response!

Hello bzwrxbz!
Most hobby brewers here will not be so lucky to have a brewer's shop near
by.
I can understand, that you are a bit homesick for beer styles that are not
offered here.
If not noticed now: american hops are offered bei Brouwland that have an
english speaking site also. To avoid the higher shipping costs, you can
order Brouwland products by the "Online-Shop" that is mentioned in the
right frame of the forum. Perhaps Thomas is accepting your orders in
english tongue, so you don't need to translate.
BTW: it may sound silly, but can anyone tell me, what is an IPA or an APA?
When i browse the web for "IPA", i get "International Police Association",
but i don't think, their main goal is to brew beers?!

Hi bzwrxbz!,
If you need fresh yeast, I can recommend the Kloster Andechs. It's nearby
Munich, and I got some fresh yeast there. They have bottom fermented and
top-fermented yeast, and the brewmaster is very friendly to hobbybrewers.
Just drive e.g. with the S5 from Munich Main Station to Herrsching, and
then with the bus to the Kloster Andechs. It's only necessary to bring a
bottle or a yar and then you will get your yeast.
Best Regards,
Bodo

Thanks for all the info! Are there duties or customs costs from ordering
international like from Brouwland? I would assume there would not be any
additional costs if the country is in the EU... Sorry if these all seem
like silly questions, I am used to driving a few miles to the brew shop to
get my things, while mail ordering occasionally.
Yes, APA is American Pale Ale.
cheers!

Hi bzwrxbz,
in Germany you won't find that many "walk-through" brew shops like in the
U.S., U.K. or Australia. The few we have are mostly based on mail-order.
What do you need exactly ? Equipment, ingredients ?
Just post it here and we can discuss where the easiest place is for you to
find it . I'm sure here are many friendly homebrewers who like to help you
with finding and translating anything.
You can order any Brouwland (based in Belgium) item at these German online
stores to avoid international (EU) additional shiping costs.
Hopefully they speak English.... Or you make a list and post it here and we
set up a Fax for you.

Hello...
Primarily I am concerned about getting the equipment to start. Fermentation
vessel, airlocks, cleaning supplies, hydrometer, thermometer, fermometer,
etc... I usually like to see what big things I am getting before I
purchase, especially since this is not my home country, I could get
"surprised".
I will just order a starter kit I suppose, and then get the additional
items required.
Sometimes in the U.S., shipping times can be incredibly long from the
online-shops. Does this typically happen here?
I have seen the rating system for the different shops in Germany that this
site has... If I remember correctly, www.candirect.de was rated pretty
well, and it looks as if they have a lot of the small pieces needed. Are
their customer service and shipping times usually pretty good?
I will look into the Brouwland distributors mentioned above as well.
cheers! and thanks in advance.
